         Advantages of this congress :

One could recall to each student in geography a paramount point: the studies of this speciality require an opening on the world, which also passes by the opening on Europe. In this step of discovery, thanks to its network of entities, EGEA represents without any doubt one of the best means of communication, of exchange, and of experiency between students in geography of all Europe.

One can however regret the weak participation of the students and young French geographers in the activities of EGEA till this day: at the time of the last annual congresses French entities were never more than two present, symbolized each one by only one member.

With this occasion, the organisation of the congress in Dijon will give the possibility to make known the University of Burgundy in France and Europe in this year of the passage to Euro, and will develop the participation of the French students in the European activities.

Moreover this congress conceived with the idea of opening towards the other disciplines, integrate in its organization non geographers students. Other collaborations are possible to widen still the multidisciplinarity of this congress while preserving its geographical orientation and its topics.

The congress makes it possible to connect students coming from the majority of the countries of Europe (the geographical meaning), and to make them reflect and work jointly on geographical topics. That makes it possible of more than confront knowledge, experiments and different studying methods.

This congress in Dijon will intègrera in addition to this opening towards to other disciplines by the active participation in organisation of non geographers, a collaboration between students of various countries . Moreover organisation of this congress has sought to make fully take part th University of Burgundy in this project, by including significant participations of the professors of the department of geography in particular to confirm a scientific credibility established for several years by the activities developed at the time of the preceding congresses.

To include the University of Burgundy, means also to promote it by making it discover by the participants who will inform in their origin universities the students likely to come to carry out part of their studies in Dijon.

This aspect of promotion of the University of Burgundy and the studies of geography, also exists at the national level, this congress having to be like its predecessors supported by a significant international scientific committee, and to make the objet of one strong cover by media. In general the congresses of EGEA accomodate in the form of opening speech, of conference or debates, some political personalities of first order.
